4/25/2008 Students worked
very hard on their NWEA tests this week. We have one test remaining which will be taken the second week in May.
On Tuesday
we will be doing Earth Day activities with the naturalist from Fontana.
4/21/2008 We will begin our spring NWEA testing on
Monday. Students will be taking 2 of the 4 tests this week with the remaining 2 to be taken next week.
Reminder that we
do have early dismissal on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
4/11/2008 Thursday, April 17th, those students who missed the Lifetouch Photo
opportunity will be bused over to East to have those redone. Be sure the permission slips are returned before then.
Friday
we will be traveling to UNI to see "Paul Revere's Ride." Students will need to bring a sack lunch that day.
The playground

4/5/2008 Spring has finally arrived! Hooray!!
Our spring
concert will be Tuesday night at the High School. We look forward to seeing all of you. I know the students have been working
hard and are excited to show off a little.

2/9/2008 Well, the crazy schedule has continued unfortunately. I am still holding our for a regular week! We should
be finished with our ITBS testing Monday morning. The students have been doing a great job despite the craziness of last
week's weather.
Remember we have early dismissal on Wed. at 1 p.m.
We will be having our Valentine's Celebration on
Thursday from 2:25 to 3:00. Students may bring in Valentines - I do ask that students who choose to do Valentines that they
have one for everyone.
2/4/2008 ITBS testing will begin on Monday. Students will be testing each morning from 8:30 - 10:00 approximately.
It is extremely important that students arrive on time, as they will not be able to enter the classroom in the middle of the
testing session. Be sure students get plenty of rest each night and have a proper breakfast each morning. Thank you to all
the families who are providing our snacks and juice this week.
1/26/2008 Is anyone else thinking of thoughts of spring? A nice day with
above 0 temperatures is on my immediate wish list.
We will be visiting the care center on Wednesday.
Also note that
ITBS testing will begin next Monday. We have been doing some work to prepare for this over the past several weeks. Please
be sure that students are getting plenty of rest. Reminder notes for those families who signed up to provide us with healthy
snacks and juice during the week of tests will be coming home this week. The class thanks you in advance for this support

11/4/2007 We have a busy
week ahead of us this coming week. Monday we will begin taking the NWEA assessments with our first test in reading. Our
math portion will be on Thursday.
On Wednesday we will take our first trip to the care center to play BINGO with the residents.

10/28/2007 We had a great week for Character
Counts last week. Congratulations to Madi for being our Kid of Character. Congratulations to Paige, Eian and Melissa also
for being nominated by their peers for their respectful behavior.
The weather has definitely gotten cooler, please encourage
your young people to dress appropriately. Several students were caught unprepared for the brisk temperatures at recess last
week.
Thank you for sending back your conference slips. If you still have yours, please get those returned as soon as
possible - Mrs. Anderson will be starting to set the times very soon.
Wednesday will be our Halloween Celebration. Thank
you in advance for all the families who volunteered to help out with this.
10/20/2007 This week is Character Counts and Red Ribbon
Week. Students will be taking part in several activities to promote good character and the importance of leading a drug free
life. Be sure to talk with your students about our special projects this week.

6/13/2007 Summer vacation
has officially arrived at my house. Last week saw me working with the other k-5 teachers writing our new language arts and
social studies curriculum, as well as clearing out the classroom for summer painting. I will be starting some revamping of
the site this month, so please bear with me as the changes progress. I hope everyone is enjoying their vacation so far. Happy
summer!
5/27/2007 Can you believe it is the last week of school! I hate to say good-bye to the class, but I know they are ready
to move on. The class has made their final goals for the year in Accelerated Math and with their independent reading, so
we will be having ice cream and pizza this week. Students may bring a drink of their choice on Thursday to go with their
pizza, and I will be purchasing ice cream on Friday with their lunch.
As the end of the year rapidly approaches, please
be on the lookout for books and other materials that belong to the classroom. Also, all school library books were due last
week, we do have a few stragglers so please get those turned back in. Thank you so much with your help getting things sent
back to school. Should you find anything over the summer, you can drop it off next fall.

4/29/2007 It is unbelievable that the first of May is this week! My goodness
how quickly this year has flown by! We will bid a sad farewell to Mrs. Quigley, our student teacher on Friday. We have really
enjoyed having her in our room and wish her the best in the future.
Students brought home a letter explaining the new set
up for our annual Track and Field Day held at the end of the year. Please get your reservations for lunch in as soon as possible.
The deadline for those reservations is Friday, May 11th. The students are excited
about all the events. We look forward to seeing you then.

3/30/2007 It will be a fast week next week. Remember we do not have school on Friday, April 6 or Monday, April 9th for
Spring Break. I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend. As you know, the students at West are raising money for the Pennies
for Patients Fund. So far we have raised a total of $1,070.88. The students (and staff) enjoyed Mr. Lyons getting creamed
at Friday's assembly. We still have one more week to bring in those pennies. We are so very proud of the children's willingness
to step forward and help others.
3/25/2007 The weather is turning nicer-thank heavens! Although it is tempting to started dressing for hot days, students
should continue to bring boots and heavy coats or sweatshirts for recess. Layering clothes is the best solution as we can
always take off a layer or two if it does get warm. A note will be sent home when boots are no longer required on the playground.Students
are participating in the Pennies for Patients fund drive. We will be continuing the drive for two more weeks. We are so
proud of the way our students here at West step up to help those who are in need.
3/18/2007 Hurray- some spring like weather
has finally arrived! Along with the nice weather, Mrs. Quigley, our student teacher, as also joined us. We are very happy
to have her in class.

3/9/2007 We had a very busy week. Thank
you all you made it in for conferences. I enjoyed visiting with each of you.
We held our Read-A-Thon today. Students
who forgot their envelopes may still return them next week. Remember, this is a way for us to raise money to purchase new
books for our library. We appreciate your support with this. Also, the Life Touch photos that went home earlier this week
also need to be returned next week. Please send the money or the pictures back to school.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Quigley will
be joining our classroom as a student teacher. We are looking forward to having her in our class.
